Version 8.0 brings full COUNTER 5.1 support

February 14, 2025

CELUS is excited to announce the launch of Version 8.0 of its unifying e-content usage platform.  With Version 8.0, CELUS has successfully implemented full support for Release 5.1 of the COUNTER Code of Practice (R5.1).

For more than two decades, COUNTER Metrics, formerly known as Project Counter, has collaborated with both librarians and publishers to devise and implement a global standard for measuring and reporting e-content usage.

With R5.1, COUNTER Metrics has improved the reporting capabilities for open access and bibliodiverse content; these new features reflect the critical diversity of scholarly works that represent cultures, languages, genres, and other scientific research.

COUNTER Metrics has asked publishers, and service providers such as CELUS, to incorporate the R5.1 requirements before the delivery date of January usage reports.  CELUS Version 8.0 is fully compliant with R5.1 and has been successfully rolled out to its global library subscribers.

The manifestation of R5.1 compliance in CELUS Version 8.0 provides librarians with a myriad of new capabilities, including:

Coinciding with the release of version 8.0, CELUS has published an open website that tracks the adoption of R5.1 by publishers and platforms (counter51.info).

"We are grateful for the open collaboration with Tasha Mellins-Cohen and her team at COUNTER Metrics,” said Tomáš Novotný, CEO and Co-Founder of CELUS. “This partnership underscores the wider CELUS vision to provide librarians with a trusted, centralized, and comprehensive e-content usage stats platform.”
